Zoofari 2017 “Night of the Tiger” was definitely a night to remember. In true Henry Doorly Zoo fashion, wonderful memories were made and it certainly solidifies why and how Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the top zoos and foundations in the world.
There were several opportunities for guests to enjoy throughout the evening such as: a pop-up performance from actors with the Omaha Community Playhouse bringing to life a scene from the Jungle Book, a professional photo station where guest could be photographed and receive their digital image, several live animal encounters, to 20 exclusive zoo experiences that were auctioned off during the live auction event.
As always the live auction featured once-in-a-lifetime experiences from safari’s to Botswana and Zambia hosted by Dr. Lee G. Simmons (aka Doc) and his lovely wife, Marie, a journey to the Galapagos islands and a private jet to visit all the elephants that were part of the Swaziland rescue mission.

The highlight of the night was when the room was silenced and 2 of the zoo’s majestic cheetahs walked on the stage for a visit. A special cheetah experience package was auctioned and was so popular that in the end there were two winners who will each get their own experience with the amazing animals.
The Zoofari event is held every two years and is the largest fundraising event for foundation raising over 2.4 million dollars that night. Without the Zoofari event, and the work of the honorary chairs, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who attended and supported the event, funding for projects like the Asian Highlands would not be possible. We were grateful to be a part of the event and be a witness to the legacy that has been created by Doc and the support of local sponsors and the community that has produced one of the greatest zoos in the world today.
